No Tan Distintos
Sumo was an influential Argentine rock band formed in 1981 that revolutionized the music scene of the 80s with an explosive mix of post-punk, reggae and underground attitude under the leadership of Luca Prodan.
The band came to an abrupt end following the death of Luca Prodan on December 22, 1987.
THE STORY BEHIND THIS CROSS
Released in 1987 on the album After Chabón by the legendary Argentine band Sumo, “No Tan Distintos” is a landmark track of post-punk and reggae-infused rock. Led by the charismatic Anglo-Italian frontman Luca Prodan, the original track features English lyrics calling for peace and empathy amidst global tensions.
This transformation reimagines the underground anthem into warm, soul-drenched music. Moving from English to Spanish, the driving rock rhythm gives way to smooth vintage basslines, rich electric piano chords, subtle horn fills, and expressive group harmonies.
The new vocal arrangement shifts the tone from post-punk urgency to a soulful, heartfelt message of unity and human connection. While swapping genres and translating the narrative, the track preserves its iconic melody and powerful central thesis: deep down, we are not so different after all.
