Un Poco de Amor Francés
THE STORY BEHIND THIS CROSS
What happens when one of Spanish rock's most famous lyric phrases—“El lujo es vulgaridad”—gets re-anchored into a heavy urban boom-bap rhythm? This cross takes Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota’s iconic 1991 classic "Un poco de amor francés" and completely reframes its cynical narrative through a golden-era Hip Hop lens.
Instead of the bouncy mid-tempo rock guitars and saxophone fills of the original, the track drops anchor into a laid-back, street-ready MPC beat with crisp rimshots, vinyl crackle, and a deep, thumping bassline. A male MC takes the helm, turning Indio Solari’s famously enigmatic Spanish lines into a rhythmic, spoken-word flow that sounds like a story being told on a street corner late at night.
It’s an urban story-telling shift. By replacing rock's stadium energy with raw hip-hop cadence and dusty samples, this version turns a legendary Latin rock character study into an authentic rap vignette.
