Salting the Wounds
THE STORY BEHIND THIS CROSS
Imagine taking the raw, paranoia-laced energy of Argentina’s most mythical underground rock band and dissolving it into a serene, late-night haze. This cross executes a stunning genre and linguistic transformation, taking Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota’s dark 1991 rock track "Salando las heridas" and recasting it into a lush piece of English Chillout.
The original’s aggressive guitar riffs, driving basslines, and Indio Solari’s iconic, gravelly Spanish delivery are completely replaced. In their place floats a cushion of soft ambient pads, down-tempo lounge beats, and delicate electric piano touches. A smooth female vocal glides through translated English lyrics ("Salting the Wounds"), trading the original’s tense, street-rock grit for a dreamy, hypnotic elegance.
It’s an astonishingly sophisticated metamorphosis. By softening the edges of an Argentine counter-culture classic, this version proves that even the darkest rock poetry can be reborn as a tranquil, ambient sanctuary.
